This is such a special and often overlooked moment between a horse and rider. It’s the moment when the work is done, all the tension (not bad tension, just the tension of being at the ready for doing a job) is gone. There’s a letting down of emotions, a relaxation of muscle… you sink into your body and the seat of the saddle in a different way, and the horse too relaxes down. The focus wanders for both the horses and the rider. It is a peaceful, calm, and totally trusting moment that can only come from working together.
I painted this from a photo I took of my cousin after spending the afternoon team roping near Stillwater, Ok. in a little town called Perkins.
Artwork framed in champagne silver float frame.
